"The World's Most Flexible Record Label" stood at the juxtaposition of Punk and New Wave. This new rock had a sillyness and wit that couldn't be subscribed to it's predecessor, but owed much to that movement. Nick Lowe became the head producer at Stiff Records in 1975 and didn't think it would ever amount to much. Lowe said that listening to the album is akin to listening to an oral version of a 30-year-old home movie. "I really thought the music would be completely forgotten by the end of the year. And all that would remain would be the attitude -- it was quite rude and cheeky ... And this record would just be forgotten," Lowe said.
"I didn't know it was still going to be talked about in 30 years. I didn't even think there would be a pop business in 30 years...
You sort of recoil in horror from your hairstyle, your clothes, your antics. But despite all that, we did know how to have fun back then. I have grudging affection for it,"

Stiff Records brought in an amazing array of artists including Elvis Costello, Ian Drury, Dave Edmunds and Wreckless Eric. The hits of those days remain timeless today. The 1978 tour schedules included Nina Hagen, Rachel Sweet, Richard Hell, Graham Parker, the Pogues and the Plasmatics.
We'll start playing the 2008 re-issue of Jesus of Cool at 11pmSLT, and play these artists after.
Pure Pop For Now People was the US title for Jesus of Cool.
"Thankfully, Jesus of Cool is a rarer thing still: a timeless and bullsh*t-free masterpiece." - Pitchfork Media
